Have you been sitting on the fence wondering if you should attend a tax day tea party? So, why should you attend a tea party and why in the world would I coordinate one? As to why you should come, your own conscience guides you. It helps you decide what is right and what is wrong. Why are you contemplating it? Answer that, and you may know why you should come.

My husband and I work hard for the money we earn to keep our household afloat and take care of our loved ones. I am right-leaning. My closest friends and family are left-leaning. Doesn’t matter. We all pay taxes whether we lean left or right. And, I believe, we all believe in securing our freedoms that this nation was founded on.

The issue should not be blurred with political idealism. This is not about Obama or any other democrat in office. The Republicans are just as guilty of negligence with how the money we work hard to earn is spent. This is simply about how those hard-earned dollars are spent.

Let’s pretend there is an Independent in office. Would you want the Independent throwing money at the big-wig CEOs that sank multi-national companies? That threw the money at their executives who did not perform? We would have been fired, not rewarded. This is why TRUE reform needs to take place. No more paying back the constituents that threw thousands/millions of dollars at you to fund your political aspirations. We elected you, you need to answer to us!

So, although our tea party may not be as grand as others across the nation, we will be heard as one big voice. Similar to our country’s Revolutionary heroes, our Suffragette heroines, our Civil War heroes, our Civil Rights heroes. This is a day for history. We are building a force to be reckoned with for the 2010 elections! A solid base of rational thinkers.

There I am, swirling and swirling, round and round, the little hair band on the desk..then, ZING! Off it goes shooting across the desk towards the plump, silvery-grey cat with her pupils almost totally dilated. My green-eyed beauty, Ewok, aptly blocks the hair band as a skilled hockey goalie might.

Why do I do this? No, a better question is why do I continue to do this? This has been a game of ours since she was a kitten. Another game, no–more a habit, is that she follows me into the closet in the morning and hides under the bureau drawer until I pull down the peacock feather and play with her.

What is it about these cats? I would be heartbroken if I lost one, but do they feel the same way? Why do we grow so attached to non-human living creatures? I surely don’t know, but I consider myself very lucky to be in their company, for they are always at the ready to provide stress relief, whether it be a tummy rub, game of hockey, or just a quick pat on the head. By the way, Ewok always gets it past me—I’m an awful goalie.
